Championing Diversity and Inclusion in the Mining Industry

The Bloomfield Group proudly announces one of their own as a diversity and inclusion champion for the mining industry with Damien Butler, their Corporate Communications and Community Relations Manager, taking out the award at the NSW Women in Mining Awards.

The Bloomfield Group CEO Brett Lewis says the award is well deserved with Damien demonstrating exemplary leadership and an unwavering commitment to championing diversity and inclusion.

“Damien has played a pivotal role in advocating for diversity and inclusion within The Bloomfield Group. As the company's Diversity and Inclusion Forum Coordinator, Damien supported the establishment of our first-ever Diversity and Inclusion Committee, marking a significant milestone towards fostering a more inclusive workplace culture.”

“Under Damien's guidance, we have implemented strategic initiatives aimed at promoting diversity, enhancing parental leave benefits, and introducing flexible work arrangements to accommodate a more diverse workforce.

Damien's dedication to amplifying the accomplishments of female employees has been particularly noteworthy, as evidenced by his advocacy for their recognition through nominations for esteemed awards such as the Women in Mining Awards.”

The Bloomfield Group Chief Corporate Services Officer Renata Roberts adds that through the implementation of The Bloomfield Group's formal Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan, Damien has driven tangible and meaningful change within the organisation.

“Damien has played a pivotal role in initiatives including expanded female facilities and the introduction of a Flexible Work Opportunities Management System, laying the groundwork for a more inclusive future in the mining industry.”

Beyond his contributions within The Bloomfield Group, Damien has demonstrated his commitment to diversity and inclusion through his co-leadership of the WIMnet NSW Hunter Valley Subcommittee. His efforts have led to significant growth and engagement in diversity-focused events, furthering the dialogue on the importance of inclusivity within the resources sector.

Damien says the award was made possible by the amazing people who surround him both in his professional and personal life.

“The meaningful change we have begun would not have been possible without the guidance and support of our Board, the members of our Diversity and Inclusion Forum, and the unwavering dedication of my colleagues, including Renata Roberts and Larissa Weir.

“My hope is that this recognition inspires other male champions to recognise the value that diversity and inclusion brings to an organisation.”

The Bloomfield Group extends its heartfelt congratulations to Damien Butler on this well-deserved recognition.
